“Urinetown”

By on in Archive |

Thanks to everyone who can out to see the show! Stay tuned for information on our next production, “The Boys Next Door” coming this fall! The Hilliard Arts Council is proud to announce our 2016 summer show, Urinetown, July 8, 9 and 10, 2016. This is a 2 act musical that’s rated PG-13 Winner of three TONY Awards, three Outer Critic’s Circle Awards, two Lucille Lortel Awards, and two Obie Awards, Urinetown is a hilarious musical satire of the legal system, capitalism, social irresponsibility, populism, bureaucracy, corporate mismanagement, municipal politics and musical theatre itself! Hilariously funny and touchingly honest, Urinetown provides a fresh perspective of one of America’s greatest art forms. In a Gotham-like city, a terrible water shortage, caused by a 20-year drought, has led to a government-enforced ban on private toilets. The citizens must use public amenities, regulated by a single malevolent company that profits by charging admission for one of humanity’s most basic needs. Amid the people, a hero decides he’s had enough, and plans a revolution to lead them all to freedom! Inspired by the works of Bertolt Brecht and Kurt Weill, Urinetown is an irreverently humorous satire in which no one is safe from scrutiny. Praised for...

The Hilliard Arts Council is proud to present “Ain’t Misbehavin’” a sassy, sultry musical celebration of legendary jazz great Fats Waller, February 26, 27 and 28, 2016 at the Raymond Memorial Golf Course Reception House. Assembled under the expert eye of director/lyricist Richard Maltby, Jr., Ain’t Misbehavin’ is one of the most popular, well-crafted revues of all time and winner of the 1978 TONY Award for Best Musical. The inimitable Thomas “Fats” Waller rose to international fame during the Golden Age of the Cotton Club and that jumpin’ new beat, Swing. Although not quite a biography, Ain’t Misbehavin’ evokes the delightful humor and infectious energy of this American original as a versatile cast struts, strums and sings the songs he made famous in a career that ranged from uptown clubs to downtown Tin Pan Alley to Hollywood and concert stages in the U.S., Canada and Europe. Ain’t Misbehavin’ provides the perfect opportunity to deliver a smash hit while minimizing resources. The intoxicating music of Fats Waller will delight and energize audiences as well as provide great insight into a vibrant time in American history and music. The show is a 2 act revue and is rated PG-13. Show Times:...

Steel Magnolias

The Hilliard Arts Council invites you to attend our 2015 Fall production of “Steel Magnolias”. When selecting “Steel Magnolias” as Hilliard Arts Council’s fall play, director Robin Rosenfeld Brenneman had personal experiences that contributed to her love of the story. “I have always loved ‘Steel Magnolias.’ I love the characters and their camaraderie. During my years teaching I had a number of students with Type 1 Diabetes, students I was very close to, students who were part of the theater program. So I also like Steel Magnolias because it shines a light on the challenges of living with Type 1 Diabetes.” “Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune disease that can strike both children and adults at any age. Over 1.25M Americans are currently living with this disease”, said Cathy Paessun, Executive Director of JDRF Central Ohio. “A cure will only come through research. That’s why our mission is to raise awareness and raise money. We are so grateful to Hilliard Arts Council for partnering with us to do both in such a community- oriented, creative way.” Therefore, as part of this effort, The Hilliard Arts Council will offer two opportunities to donate to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF). Patrons can purchase the “Shelby Ticket” with a portion of...
